dc.description.abstractProviding teachers to be aware of the scientific processes is one of the most important aims of science and social sciences programs. Personal beliefs, attitudes and understandings concerning the nature of science with academic background can influence their approach to science teaching and even their teaching behaviors. In this study, attitudes concerning the nature of science that are affected by some factors are investigated by descriptive methods. The population of interest for this study is teachers who are working in schools of Muğla province and its districts (n=398). Teachers' attitudes about understanding of the nature of science, is assessed by a modified form of an existing likert scale containing 16 items. Results indicated that there is a significant difference between the gender and the attitude items in male teachers' favor. There is no significant difference between the average scores of the attitudes of science-mathematics and social sciences teachers. There is a significant difference between the teachers' professional seniority and their attitudes in the senior teachers' favor. There is no significant difference between the teachers' academic background and their attitudes.en_US
